WARNING!! Before commencing any work on the appliance, make sure you disconnect the appliance from the electrical supply first. Common Faults

1. No power.
2. Humming but nothing else.
3. Not emptying.
4. No drum action.
5. Not spinning.
6. Noisy or jumping about.
7. Blowing fuses.
8. Door will not open.
9. Leaking.
10. Overfilling.
11. Fills when off.
12. Timer sticking.

1. No power. Check that the door is shutting properly & close it again firmly. Check that the appliance is plugged in correctly & if so, then check the fuse. You can check the socket by plugging something else in like a table lamp. Check that all the on/off buttons & timer controls are switched on.

2. Humming but nothing else. If you can her a hum but no water is entering the appliance, it is most likely that the inlet hoses are kinked.

3. Not emptying. Check the filter first (if yours has one, it located at the bottom of the appliance, normally behind a cover). If it is blocked remove all the debris & clean both the filter & the filter holder on the machine. Check the drain hose is not kinked. Finally check that the outlet (if plumbed under the sink) is not blocked.

4. No drum action. Check that there is nothing fowling the drum, sometimes a sock or other small object can stop the drum turning. You can also check the belt easily by removing the back or top of the appliance. This can come off or could be broken.

5. Not spinning. Normally the appliance not spinning is a result of either overloading/uneven load or because it is not emptying. For not emptying go back to No 3. To test for an uneven load, take the clothes out & then switch your machine to spin, if it spins, then it was an uneven load. This happens because most modern day appliances have a built in out of balance spin control & the machine could balance its load. Next time adjust the load.

6. Noisy or jumping about. Check that the appliance is level; this is a very common fault that causes a lot of problems. You can normally adjust the front feet of most appliances. If the appliance is noisy when spinning this normally indicates that the drum bearing may be going although this is not always the case and there could be something fowling the drum, so check this first. If it is noisy on the wash then you have something fowling the drum.

7. Blowing fuses. Don’t change the fuse repeatedly as this can further damage the appliance. Normally when a fuse blows there is an underlying fault internally and it is recommended that you call an engineer. Remember that a washing machine should be plugged directly into the wall. If this not so then rectify this first as it could be the fault!!

8. Door will not open. This normally happens when the appliance can’t empty all the water so go back to No 3.

9. Leaking. There are many things that can cause leaking the most obvious being a blocked outlet or drain. For all other leaks I would advise an engineer.

10.Overfilling. This is normally caused by a blockage in the pressure system & is not recommended that you attempt this yourself. However parts are not normally required so it should be a reasonable cost repair.

11. Fills when off. This normally means that the inlet valve has become faulty & I would advise you call an engineer.

12. Timer sticking. This can be caused by many things & is normally not the timer! Again check the obvious blocked drain or kinked hoses. If these are ok then call an engineer.
Although there are many faults that can happen to a washing machine, it is rare for major faults to occur. It may also surprise you we have on occasion picked up appliances with no fault at all!! We can normally give some idea of cost over the telephone, so it’s always worth a free call
